On the Equilibrium Condition between Blood Serum and Serous Cavity Fluids
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. Comparative studies of blood serum and edema fluid from the same individual indicate that, regardless of the pathological condition present, whether the fluid be "transudate" or "exudate," certain definite qualitative chemical relations obtain. 2. The chief feature of these relations is that the edema fluid contains more Cl and less K than the blood serum; while the Na, HCO(3), Ca, urea, glucose, and non-protein nitrogen exist in approximately the same concentrations in the serum and in the edema fluid. The freezing point is also the same in both fluids, while the specific conductivity is constantly higher in the edema fluid. 3. The above mentioned variations between the edema fluid and the serum appear to be related to the difference in the concentration of protein in the two solutions. 4. The relationships between blood serum and edema fluid seem to result from a simple membrane equilibrium, influenced in part by the proteins present.

Proteolytic Enzymes and Anti-enzymes of Normal and Pathological Cerebro-spinal Fluids
The experiments which have been presented show that the spinal fluid occupies a unique position among the fluids which accumulate in serous cavities of the body. It contains normally neither proteolytic enzyme nor anti-enzyme, whereas blood serum, from which it is derived, exhibits both enzymotic and anti-enzymotic activity. In the blood anti-enzyme greatly predominates over enzyme, so that pro...
متن کاملExperimental Contribution to the Study of the Path by Which Fluids Are Carried from the Peritoneal Cavity into the Cirulation
TEOVG~ it has been recognised since the experiments of Magendie that fluids within the lymph spaces may enter the circulation directly through the walls of the blood vessels, the acceptation of this fact did not carry with it any serious doubt with regard to the validity of the general belief that, as a rule, it is the task of the lymphatics to carry the lymph from the lymph spaces, including t...
متن کاملRelationship between Immunoglobulin Concentrations in the Ewe's Serum and Colostrum, and Lamb's Serum in Lori-Bakhtiari Sheep
In this study 71 head of conceiving ewe and their progeny (91 head) from the flock of Lori-Bakhtiari sheep (360 head), in Sholi Station were randomly selected to determine the relationship between the immunoglobulin (IgG) concentration in the ewe's serum and colostrum, and lamb's serum. Ewe blood sample, colostrum of ewe and blood of the lamb was taken 2 weeks before parturition, 1 to 8 hours a...
متن کاملIdentification of Malignant Cells in Serous Fluids Using a Panel of Monoclonal Cytokeratin Antibodies, Epithelial Membrane Antigen(EMA) , Carcino Embryonic Antigen (CEA)
Abstract Background and Objective: Identification of malignant cells and the type of malignancy in Effusionsis very important. The main aim of this study was to differentiate between reactive mesothelial cells and malignant cells and to determine the type of the tumor cells in effusions with the aid of tumor markers Creatine Kinase (CK), EMA and CEA. Material and Methods: Forty serous flui...

Background: Recently the use of “two tier" grading system in which ovarian serous carcinoma was classified as low-grade or high-grade in comparing to preceding system has improved authority in prognosis and survival. This approach is simplistic, reproducible, and based on biologic evidence. In this study, we reclassified ovarian serous carcinoma by a new two-tier system for grading and then eva...
